“If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?” — Proverbs 24:12
“Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?” — Proverbs 6:28
Sin always leaves consequences. A man may hide motives from people, excuse compromise, or pretend innocence, but God weighs the heart.
Proverbs 6 teaches that no man can walk on hot coals without being burned. Hidden lust, secret compromise, bitterness, and deception eventually leave marks upon the life. God sees not only outward actions, but inward desires and motives.
David and Bathsheba — 2 Samuel
David tried to cover his sin with Bathsheba. He attempted secrecy, manipulation, and concealment, yet God sent Nathan the prophet with the words, “Thou art the man” (2 Samuel 12:7).
David learned that hidden sin still burns the soul.
Ananias and Sapphira — Acts 5:1-10
Ananias and Sapphira pretended spiritual devotion while hiding deceit in their hearts. They thought men would never know, but God exposed what was concealed.
The lesson is clear: no one walks on the coals of sin without being burned.
The safest place for a believer is honesty before God, quick repentance, and a clean heart before the Lord.
