“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
“For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts.” — 2 Timothy 3:6
Both verses speak of people who are laden or burdened. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. In 2 Timothy 3:6, Paul describes people burdened with sin who become vulnerable to deception and spiritual captivity.
One burden is brought to Christ and finds rest; the other burden is carried without repentance and leads to bondage. The lesson is simple: burdens should drive us to Christ, not away from Him.
David After His Sin — Psalm 38:4; 51:1-12
David became heavily burdened by guilt and conviction. “For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.” (Psalm 38:4)
Instead of hiding forever, David came to God in repentance. God forgave him and restored fellowship. A burden confessed to God becomes a burden Christ can carry.
Judas Iscariot — Matthew 27:3-5
Judas was burdened with guilt after betraying Christ. Instead of bringing his burden to the Lord in repentance, he tried to handle it himself. His guilt led him deeper into despair and destruction. Guilt without repentance leads to bondage; guilt brought to Christ leads to forgiveness.
Many people today carry burdens of sin, regret, fear, shame, and failure. Some seek relief through worldly advice, distractions, or false teaching. Others bring their burdens to Jesus.
Christ’s invitation remains: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Do not allow your burdens to make you captive. Let them bring you to the feet of Christ. The same burden that destroys one person can become the very thing that leads another person to the Savior.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
A burden carried alone becomes bondage. A burden brought to Christ becomes rest.
