“Let not then your good be evil spoken of:”Romans 14:16

“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”1 Thessalonians 5:22

The Christian life is not only about being right, but also about maintaining a testimony that honors Christ before others. There are things that may not be sinful in themselves, yet if they damage your testimony, confuse weaker believers, or give occasion for reproach, wisdom says to avoid them.

A believer should guard:

  • His testimony.
  • His influence.
  • His associations.
  • Even the appearance he gives before others.

The world watches closely, and the devil delights when a Christian’s “good” becomes “evil spoken of.”

Joseph Fled — Genesis 39:7-12

Joseph did not stay near temptation to explain himself later. He fled immediately. Why? Because a godly man protects both purity and testimony. Even the appearance of compromise can bring reproach and destruction.

Paul’s Conscience — Acts 24:16

“And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”

Paul carefully guarded his conduct before both God and people. He understood that ministry effectiveness is closely tied to credibility and testimony.

A simple truth: A strong testimony is hard to build and easy to damage.

Wise Christians avoid not only evil itself, but anything that resembles it or weakens their witness for Christ.
