“For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.” — Proverbs 5:21
“Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?” — Job 31:4
Both passages teach one unshakable truth: God sees every path we take and weighs every step we make. Therefore, purity must begin in the heart long before it is tested in the body. Nothing is hidden, forgotten, or overlooked. Every motive, step, and secret belongs to the God who sees.
God Sees the Path — Proverbs 5:21. Proverbs 5 warns against the strange woman. Why? Because hidden sin is never hidden from God. Every “secret” meeting, every private thought, every foolish step—God sees it before we take it and weighs where it will lead. He sees not only where we are, but where that choice is taking us.
God Counts the Steps — Job 31:4. Job appeals to God’s omniscience as his defense. Job lived carefully because he lived consciously: A man who knows God counts his steps will watch where he places his feet. Job teaches us that purity is not accidental. It is the result of living under the gaze of a holy God.
Joseph (Genesis 39). When Potiphar’s wife tempted Joseph, no one was around. No witnesses. No consequences. No evidence. Yet Joseph said: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Gen. 39:9). He understood the principle of Proverbs 5:21 and Job 31:4: When man does not see—God still does. That awareness preserved his purity and directed his steps.
Ananias & Sapphira (Acts 5:1–11). They planned a secret deception. They expected applause for generosity while keeping back part of the price. No one knew…but God did. Peter said, “Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” (Acts 5:4). Their hidden steps were counted by God, and their public collapse revealed it. Purity preserved Joseph; hypocrisy destroyed Ananias and Sapphira.
Because God sees all… Walk wisely—every step matters. Think purely—He weighs the motives. Live honestly—what is hidden on earth is open in heaven. Choose righteousness early—before temptation speaks. The fear of a God who sees all is the foundation of a life that falls not.
