“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.”Matthew 12:43

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”1 Peter 5:8

The devil is always searching for empty places, unguarded hearts, careless minds, and spiritually sleeping believers. In Matthew 12, the unclean spirit walked through dry places “seeking rest.” In 1 Peter 5:8, Satan walks about “seeking whom he may devour.”

Hell is always searching for an open door.

A heart merely cleaned outwardly but not filled with God becomes vulnerable. It is not enough to remove sinful habits; the soul must be filled with Scripture, prayer, obedience, and fellowship with Christ. An empty house invites trouble.

Samson — Judges 16

Samson is a picture of spiritual carelessness. Little by little he played with temptation until the enemy finally took his strength, his sight, and his liberty. What he tolerated privately eventually destroyed him publicly.

Judas Iscariot — Luke 22:3

Judas allowed Satan a place in his heart through greed and unbelief: “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot…”

A door left open spiritually became a tragedy eternally.

The Christian must stay watchful. A guarded heart, a filled mind, and a close walk with Christ are protections against the roaring lion.
