“…Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph… and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.” — Ezekiel 37:19
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.” — Ephesians 2:14
Ezekiel 37:19 shows God taking two sticks—Judah and Israel—divided by sin, rebellion, and history, and making them one in His hand. They could not unite themselves; they had drifted too far apart. But God stepped in and created unity where man had created division.
Paul declares the same miracle in Ephesians 2:14. Christ broke down the middle wall of partition—the barrier between Jew and Gentile—and made both one in Himself. Only God can take what is divided and make it one again. Only God can turn hostility into harmony, and separation into peace. Where man divides, God unites. Where sin separates, Christ reconciles. Where walls rise, the cross tears them down.
Joseph and His Brothers (Genesis 45:4–8). Joseph’s brothers had wronged him, hated him, sold him, and forgot him. Yet God overruled, healed the hurt, humbled their hearts, and brought them back together. Joseph said: “God did send me before you to preserve life.” (Genesis 45:5). God took what sin had shattered and made a family one again—just as He made the two sticks in Ezekiel one in His hand.
Christ Uniting Jews and Gentiles (Acts 10:34–36). In Acts 10, God sends Peter to a Gentile home—the home of Cornelius. Jews and Gentiles had lived divided for centuries. But when Peter preached Christ, the Holy Ghost fell, and God made one family out of two peoples. Grace crossed the boundary. Christ removed the wall. The Gospel made them one in Him. Exactly as Paul declares in Ephesians 2:14.
Where there is division, Jesus can bring peace. Where hearts are hardened, He can soften. Where family is fractured, Christ can restore. Where people are separated, the cross still makes both one. Ezekiel shows us God uniting a nation. Ephesians shows us Christ uniting the world. And both remind us: What God holds in His hand, no man can pull apart.
