“Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.”Proverbs 4:24

“Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”1 Timothy 6:5

The Bible warns that not every conversation is profitable. Some people use their words to twist truth, stir strife, and advance their own agenda.

Solomon instructed believers to put away a froward mouth, while Paul warned of men who engage in perverse disputings — arguments that corrupt rather than edify. A heart that is right with God seeks truth; a corrupt heart seeks victory, attention, or gain.

Rehoboam — 1 Kings 12:13-14

Rehoboam rejected wise counsel and followed the harsh advice of young men. His proud and froward words provoked division and split the kingdom. One careless response brought lasting damage because perverse speech often produces painful consequences.

Alexander the Coppersmith — 2 Timothy 4:14

Paul warned Timothy: “Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil…” Alexander opposed the truth and resisted God’s servant. Rather than engaging in endless arguments, Paul committed the matter to the Lord.

This reminds us that some disputes are not about discovering truth but about opposing it.

Be careful whose voice you allow into your life. Avoid those who constantly stir controversy, twist Scripture, or create division. Speak truth with grace, pursue peace, and withdraw from conversations that corrupt rather than edify.

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying.”Ephesians 4:29

A froward mouth destroys, but godly speech builds.
Guard your lips, guard your heart, and guard your fellowship.
