“The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.”Proverbs 11:6

“For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.”Romans 7:5

There are two powers working in a man’s life: the leadership of righteousness or the motions of sin.

Romans 7:5 teaches that sinful passions work inwardly like a hidden engine. Lust, pride, anger, bitterness, and covetousness move in the heart until they eventually produce “fruit unto death.” Sin never stays still. It works. It drives. It entangles.

But Proverbs 11:6 shows the opposite truth: “The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them.” Righteousness protects a man from traps that sin creates. Walking with God delivers a believer from destructive paths before they ruin him.

Sin promises liberty but produces bondage. Righteousness demands surrender but produces freedom.

Samson — Overcome by the Motions of Sin

Samson is a picture of a man overcome by the motions of sin. His lust and lack of restraint slowly carried him into bondage. What began with lingering desires eventually ended with blinded eyes and chains in Gaza.

“But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes…”Judges 16:21

His sinful passions worked in his members “to bring forth fruit unto death.”

The Prodigal Son — Delivered by Repentance

The prodigal son followed the motions of sinful desire into riotous living and destruction. But when he repented and returned to the father, mercy and restoration met him. Righteousness delivered him from the far country. What sin had taken, repentance restored.

If sinful motions are not resisted early, they will eventually control the life. The flesh never stops demanding more. But the believer who walks uprightly and stays close to God finds deliverance before destruction comes.

“Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”Galatians 5:16
