“The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.” — Proverbs 14:11

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” — Matthew 7:26-27

Both Solomon and Jesus teach the same spiritual truth — a man’s character determines the strength of his foundation. The house of the wicked may look impressive for a time, but it’s built on pride, deceit, and disobedience. When the storms come, it collapses. But the tabernacle of the upright — though humble and small — stands firm because it rests on obedience, truth, and faith in God.

The foolish man in Matthew 7 heard the truth but refused to obey it; the wise man built upon the rock of Christ’s Word. One lived for the moment; the other lived for eternity.

Outward success without inward stability leads to eventual collapse. The strength of your life depends on the depth of your obedience.

King Saul — He built his “house” on rebellion and self-will. Though once anointed, his disobedience caused his kingdom to crumble (1 Samuel 15:22–23). His life looked strong outwardly, but it was built on sand.

The Apostle Peter — Though he once wavered, Peter learned to build his life upon the Rock — Christ. By Acts 4:11–12, he boldly declared Jesus as the only foundation of salvation. His faith, tested by storms, became firm and flourishing.

The wicked build to impress; the righteous build to endure. What you build your life on today determines whether it will stand or fall tomorrow.
